The Scarecrow Festival

The Scarecrow Festival was established in 2007, when Hayling Island's Market Town Initiative volunteer group, BEST wanted to bring together local business and community groups to boost the area as tourist destination. Scarecrow Festivals are held in a number of small towns and villages across the UK and are a fun way to involve the community and also to provide some stimulus to local tourism.

This is a real community event with scarecrows made by individuals, schools, businesses, shops, rest homes, restaurants, fire stations, police stations etc. There are awards for the best scarecrows in a number of categories. More details of the event can be found at the Scarecrow Festival Web Site together with a photo gallery showing not just the winners but also celebrating the creativity of entries and the fun they had along the way.

The organisers on Hayling had a break for a couple of years, Covid hit and now the event has been restarted with a different team of people.
